Haitian Creole

Haitian Creole (Kreyòl ayisyen) is spoken by about 8.5 million people in Haiti. There are a further 1 million speakers in many other countries including the USA, Canada, France, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, the Bahamas and other Caribbean countries. Haitian Creole is a creole language based mainly on French, but also has also been influenced by various West African languages, such as Yoruba, Igbo, Kikongo, Fon and Ewe.
